During the construction of a new weir on the Lorze river in the 17th century, a massive flood occurred, causing widespread damage and destruction. The flood was so severe that it overflowed the provisional weir, releasing enormous amounts of water into the surrounding area and flooding the nearby Kloster Frauenthal. The disaster was a major setback for the construction project, but it ultimately led to the successful completion of the weir and the regulation of the lake's water level.
