In the 17th century, Allschwil had a significant Jewish population, with 24 Jewish families living in the Judengässlein, making up about 15% of the population. However, in 1694, the Bishop of Basel issued an expulsion decree, and many Jews fled to Hegenheim. Today, the remnants of this history can still be found in the village.
