The city of Winterthur has a unique tradition of celebrating the Albanifest, which commemorates the city's patron saint, St. Alban. According to legend, St. Alban was beheaded and then walked to the place where he wanted to be buried, carrying his own head. This bizarre story is depicted in a 1490 painting in the sacristy of the city church.
