In the cellar of the primary school in Niederweningen, a makeshift prison was set up in 1850, where locals who committed minor crimes, such as theft or truancy, were locked up. The space was also used to detain Polish soldiers during World War II, who left behind graffiti and poems on the walls. One of the poems reads: '...and is my sweetheart good to me tomorrow, and will she be happy with me, then... I have Viennese blood and I'll go back in for three days...'
